About Trip

This enchanting Ghorepani Poon Hill short Trek visits the most famous viewpoint in the world-famous Annapurna Region. The windswept barren ridge top known as Poon Hill offers a vast panorama of Himalayan peaks including Annapurna I, (8,091 mt , 26,545ft) 10th highest mountain on the planet and first peak over 8,000 m to have ever been summited (reached by a French team in 1950), Dhaulagiri, (8,167 mt , 26,795 ft) - world’s 7th  highest, Manaslu, (8,163 mt , 26,781 ft) - world’s 8th highest, and many more soaring peaks.

The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is a great introduction to the marvels of trekking in Nepal with everything from lush village scenery to cozy lodges and overwhelming panoramas. We make a leisurely journey on this Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek relative to more strenuous options in the area. This Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is ideal for people with a little less trekking time but still looking for something very special and with an appetite for a trip that gives a real sense of what life is like on the trekking trails.

We begin the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trekking with a short and scenic drive from the lakeside city of Pokhara. We then begin our hiking journey as we ascend through fertile farmland and forests of astonishing beauty with occasional glimpses of the snowy peaks. It is a strenuous climb to reach the ridge top settlement of Ghorepani. Along the way, we will witness the unparalleled beauty of Nepal’s natural setting with rural villages set below the snowy peaks soaring into the skies.

We will have cozy lodging at Ghorepani (2835 mt, 9,301 ft), a village in a splendid setting with mesmerizing views of the mountains. Of course, we will not want to miss the sunrise and sunset views at Poon Hill (3210 mt/10,530 ft). Poon Hill is about an hour’s ascent from Ghorepani and well worth the effort to get there in glorious mountain views!

After savoring the breathtaking panoramas, we eventually make our way back to down the valley with optional visits to famous Gurung villages and more viewpoints along the way. We then return to where the trail meets the road and make a short and scenic drive to the tourist destination of Pokhara.

Please Note: Our Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek has set departure dates from both Pokhara and Kathmandu and this trek can be personalized to accommodate your specific wishes and timetable. We can arrange a combination of this Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek with iconic Annapurna Circuit Trek as well as Annapurna Base Camp, Mardi Himal Base Camp and other inviting options in the area.

With breakfast and lunch on the highway, the bus stops at the bus park in Pokhara. The Lakeside, the tourist hub, is a ten-minute ride on any vehicle. This is where we stop for the night.

Day 3One hour drive to Nayapul by car/van, trek to Ulleri (1960 mt.). Walking 5-6 hours. Overnight at guest house.Nayapul, about an hour and a half away on a vehicle, is our trailhead for this trip. Sudamé, where we stop for lunch, is about two and a half hours further to the North on a trail that is a gentle ascent. It is the numerous waterfalls that should attract the attention of many. With two hours up to a steep climb towards the end, the walk arrives in Ulleri. The Himalayas on sight from this village is the magnificent Annapurna South and Mt Huinchuli. This is where we stop for the night.

Day 4Ulleri to Ghorepani (2835mt.). Walking 6-7 hours. Overnight at guest house. The walk today asks us to go through a dense rhododendron forest throughout. The panorama continuously changes as we traverse through the hills, going around a corner then another up a steady uphill. First, it’s the Annapurna South and Mt Huinchuli replaced by Mt Machhapuchré (the Fishtail) next. It is not Banthanti, a settlement on the way, but Nangethanti, which arrives sometime later, where we stop for lunch.
• We move on aiming for Ghorepani after lunch. Trudging on a similar route, we reach Ghorepani, situated amidst a forest largely dominated by rhododendrons. This is where we stop for the night.

Day 5Early morning hike to Poon Hill (3210 mt.) to see 220 degree panoramic view of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range and sunrise, trek to Tadapani (2520 mt.).Walking 5 hours. Back in Ghorepani and we leave for Tadapani after breakfast. It starts out up a steep incline for almost two hours before eventually arriving atop a ridge. It’s a downhill from here on through a forest one more time until Banthanti, where we stop for lunch. After a downhill for some time then a sharp uphill, we arrive in Tadapani. This is where we stop for the night.

Day 6Tadapani to Syane via Ghandruk (1940 mt.) and drive to Pokhara. Walking 4 hours. Overnight at hotel. With Mt Machhapuchré, Mt Huinchuli and the Annapurna South still magnificently on display, leaving Tadapani is a compulsion; our itinerary suggests we reach Pokhara today. We catch a local bus from here and head off for Pokhara, reaching the place in some two hours and a half.

Usefull Note

Accommodation

All the accommodation as per the itinerary is included in the package cost. We have chosen the 2/3 star hotel in the cities for your comfort and safety. The hotels can be upgraded to more deluxe ones upon your request. While trekking in the Mountain, our guides will choose the best available lodge of the village from their past experience. As some villages have limited number of lodges, in a peak season like in Spring and Autumn, you may have to share the room with some stranger trekker as well. Comfortable two men tent with mattress and four seasons sleeping bag will be provided for the camping trek. Our crew will try to set the camp in a scenic place. All the hotel and camping accommodations are as per twin sharing basis unless you are of different gender.

Meals

Nepal is such an easy place to get several vegetarian options so no worries if you are a vegetarian or vegan. You can enjoy typical Nepali food as well as continental, Italian, Indian and Tibetan. Freshly cooked and hygienic dinner and breakfast are served at the camp and lunch will be served on the way to the next destination which will be prepared by our own chef. Only breakfast is served in Kathmandu whilst farewell dinner on the eve of your international departure is served from our side. All the meals (B/L/D) are on full board basis during the trek.

Trekking Crew

An experienced and licensed Guide and necessary porters will assist you during the trek. In a group with more than 8 clients, 2 guides will be provided for the betterment in service. In a teahouse trek, generally, one porter is provided for every two clients who carry between 15 to 20 kg. However, on a camping journey, more porters are required. All the camping equipment such as kitchen, dining, dome and toilet tents, kitchen equipment, fuel, and all consumable goods has to be carried from Kathmandu which needs more manpower. All of our guides and porters are fully insured so you don't' have to worry about them in case of emergency. Our team believes that our customer care is the first priority.

Physical Fitness and Experience

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is an easy trek which is fit for those who has the ability to walk 5-6 hours of walking uphill and downhill in a day carrying the personal day pack. Some days are longer with 7- 8 hours of walking as well. Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is low altitude trek which demands less physical, however having strong determination, positive vibe and average physical fitness can complete this trek. Doing some physical exercise a few weeks prior to the trip is better but technical skill is not required for this trek. If you are taking medicine for heart, lung or blood diseases, please kindly consult your doctor and inform to High Camp Adventure.

Travel Insurance

This is a real adventure in high altitude so obtaining a travel insurance is always a good idea for your safety and is highly recommended too. Your travel insurance policy should cover helicopter evacuation and medical expenses in an emergency. There is not any Nepalese insurance company to sell travel insurance policy so you better buy a good one from home. There are some insurance policies which covers only in low altitude below 4000 mt. and some only in high altitude above 4000 mt. So before you purchase it, please double check the policy what it covers and where are you going.

Best Seasons

Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) are the best months for Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek. Where normally days are sunny, the temperature is perfect, the sky is clear and Mountain remains crystal. This trek can be done in Monsoon (June to August ) but you should not expect the great weather and Mountain view.  You can do it in Winter (December to February) if you are used to with extreme cold temperature.

Ground Transportation

Highway in Nepal is safe, however, sometimes transport can be halted due to landslide, strike or by political unrest. Add a cushion of a few extra days in your onward travel schedule, advised as a margin of safety for your international flight from Nepal. We, therefore, advise that you schedule at least an extra days cushion in your itinerary to avoid conflicts with international flights out of Nepal. In that case, High Camp Adventure can arrange activities with your additional days in Kathmandu before your flight home.
