About Lumbini Pilgrimage Tour

Lumbini Pilgrimage Tour is special tour is a pilgrimage to the revered birthplace of Buddha. Buddha was born in into a royal family with the name of Siddhartha Gautam. His mother Queen Maya, died shortly after his birth. Our Lumbini Tour takes us to the heart of history in the southern plains of Nepal.

This is our most popular tour for Buddhists and many non-Buddhists are also interested to make this pilgrimage. Lumbini is the site of an event over 2500 years ago. It was in Lumbini under a massive sal tree that Queen Maya gave birth a son on a full moon evening.

The ancient site is marked with a shrine and nearby is a pillar erected by the great emperor of India Ashoka as well as a pond and serene grounds in a natural setting.

The ancient grounds are a day’s scenic drive from Kathmandu or Pokhara. Temples have been built with international support from Buddhists around the world. The majestic design and architecture are unique to each temple and the part of the world its supporters are from.

A highlight of the tour is a museum with ancient artifacts and a nearby Japanese shrine similar to the Peace Pagoda in Pokhara. Both are built for world peace and surrounded by serene gardens.

As the birthplace of Buddha, Lumbini is one of four sacred sites for Buddhist devotees. It is the only one of the four sites located in Nepal. The other three are across the border in India and are the following:  Bodh Gaya (site of Buddha’s enlightenment), Sarnath (a site where Buddha gave his first teaching), and Kushinagar (a site where Buddha passed away to Nirvana).

Our Lumbini tour includes round-trip ground transportation to and from Kathmandu and Pokhara as well as a two-night hotel stay.

The tour covers everything from religious sites to natural and historical treasures with informative descriptions by our specialist, a resident and seasoned guide from the local area.

Our Lumbini Tour is an exciting option pre-and post- trek or other adventure activity and for general leisure, knowledge, and entertainment. It can be personalized to accommodate specific wishes and timetables. Just let us know and we can tailor a trip to your wishes.

There are additional options for more exploration in the Lumbini area including rafting, a jungle safari at nearby Chitwan National Park and treks in the regional hills. Leave the logistics to us and you can enjoy every minute of the fascinating experience.

Best Seasons

Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) are the best months for traveling in Nepal. Where normally days are sunny, the temperature is perfect, the sky is clear and Mountain remains crystal. This tour can be done in Monsoon (June to August ) and Winter (December to February) but you should not expect the great weather and Mountain view.

Ground Transportation

Highway in Nepal is safe, however, sometimes transport can be halted due to landslide, strike or by political unrest. Add a cushion of a few extra days in your onward travel schedule, advised as a margin of safety for your international flight from Nepal. We, therefore, advise that you schedule at least an extra day cushion in your itinerary to avoid conflicts with international flights out of Nepal. In that case, High Camp Adventure can arrange activities with your additional days in Kathmandu before your flight home.
